Specialty Construction Division

Mike Mitchel
Division Manager, Specialty Contracting

Mike Mitchel is proficient in a variety of coating specialties, yet he considers parking structure restoration, waterproofing and polyurethane roofing the type of work that best illustrate his talents and level of expertise.

Mitchel officially joined F.D. Thomas in 2001, after 17 years of owning and operating Engineering Coating Applications in Spokane, Washington. Mitchel’s construction career started at Evergreen Wholesale Lumber in Spokane where as Operations Manager he interacted with thousands of general and specialty contractors over a 10-year period. Finally, after attending trainings and seminars related to the specialty coatings industry, Mitchel earned his contractor’s license and turned his energies toward what he considered more challenging work.

In 2000, Mitchel was still operating his own business when he performed two large jobs for F.D. Thomas, including Chief Joe Dam. From that point on, he has worked as an F.D. Thomas Project Manager, scheduling up to 50-member work crews on multimillion-dollar projects.  “My interests and the avenues Dan had pursued were a natural fit. So I decided to work for him.”
